Senior wrestler Graham Youngs has been named the Wabash College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Athlete of the Week for the period ending November 7, 2010.
Last Saturday, Youngs took fourth place out of 26 wrestlers in the 157-pound weight class of the
Loras College Open Tournament. He ended the day with a 5-2 record. Youngs opened with two come-from-behind victories, the first ending in regulation time with a score of 7-5 and the second in overtime with a score of 11-9. He lost in the next round to the eventual 157-pound champion, but rallied to attain two more victories. In the semi-finals of the consolation bracket, Youngs defeated Big Ten Conference wrestler Kalvin York from the University of Wisconsin.
Wabash Assistant Coach Danny Irwin said, “Youngs showed a ton of heart and determination that exemplifies the fighting attitude of a Wabash student-athlete.”
The SAAC Little Giant Player of the Week award is a selective process in which the SAAC board, composed of representative athletes from each varsity sport, votes on players who have been nominated by their coaches, based upon the athlete’s performance during the past week. The Player of the Week award is announced every Tuesday on the Wabash Sports Home Page.
