Smith Repeats as NCAC Weekly Award Winner

For the second consecutive week senior guard Wes Smith has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Smith, a graduate of Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, received the honor for the second straight week after being named the Most Valuable Player at the Pete Thorn Tournament in addition to scoring 81 points and grabbing 20 rebounds in three wins for Wabash last week. The Little Giants defeated Hanover 68-55 on Tuesday night with Smith leading the way with 20 points. He scored a season-high 34 points in the opening round of the Pete Thorn tourney Friday night in a 71-54 win over Otterbein.

Saturday Smith led the Little Giants with 27 points and nine rebounds in a 60-45 win over nationally-ranked Randolph-Macon College. The Yellow Jackets were number two in the D3hoops.com preseason poll after advancing to the NCAA Division III national semifinals last season.

For the week Smith averaged 27 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in addition to handing out five assists, blocking three shots, and recording four steals. He shot 32-of-52 from the field for 61.5 percent.

Smith leads the NCAC in scoring with a 25.8 points-per-game average. He is fifth in field goal percentage (59.6), third in steals (2.7 spg), 10th in blocked shots (0.8 bpg), and 14th in rebounding (5.8 rpg)

Smith and the rest of his Wabash teammates have opened the season with six consecutive victories for the first time since the 1922-23 Little Giant team accomplished the feat. Wabash will play undefeated DePauw University (4-0) Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in Greencastle, Indiana.
