“Who are we? Wabash!” – Those words rang throughout the Chapel Thursday morning during Dean Michael Raters Chapel Talk.
Raters ’85 used those words most often used at Little Giant sporting events to illustrate just what it means to attend Wabash College and be a Wabash man.
He began his talk by admitting some people see the cheer as defiant but also proud. So he asked the students, faculty and staff “who are we?”
Raters noted the long list of volunteer work performed by the entire Wabash community. He talked about the student body pledge to the on-going Challenge of Excellence.
He wrapped up his talk with highlights from a “November to Remember.” It all started with the Monon Bell win over DePauw, 47-0. The Dean said the highlight wasn’t the final score or keeping the Bell, but for him it was senior Josh Miracle’s touchdown run that ended up being called back because of penalty.
“Josh is a great example of putting others first and putting team first,” Raters said. The senior quarterback was the placekicker’s holder throughout the season but accepted his role and was a leader nonetheless. He noted how happy the whole team was when Miracle went in at quarterback.
He talked of Saturday’s basketball win over Randolph-Macon and Wednesday night’s 57-40 win over DePauw.
He then brought Cross Country Coach Roger Busch to the front of the Chapel to introduce his team. The Little Giant runners finished 13th at the 2010 NCAA Division III National Championships.
