Wrestlers Ranked 20th in Latest D3 Poll

Wabash moved up eight spots in the latest Brute/adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III poll this week. The Little Giants, fresh off a second place finish at the Max Servies Duals, equalled their highest all-time ranking in the poll at 20th.

"We were ranked 20th my second season here," head coach Brian Anderson said. "That's been as high a spot as we have achieved. I think the ranking is a reflection of not only our effort Saturday against some extremely talented teams, but also of our results from the Budd Whitehill Duals. I think we showed the nation what Wabash wrestling can accomplish against some of the other teams ranked in the poll at that time. We knocked off some great teams out there and that gets you noticed.

"We have a great group of wrestlers this season and what they've accomplished is fabulous. We have the perfect opportunity this weekend to back up at the Wheaton Invitational because we will compete against wrestlers from some schools that are right there with us in the rankings. We could move up with a good performance or we could just as easily move down in the poll if we don't do what we need to this weekend."

The Little Giants are 11-4-1 in dual meets overall this season, including a mid-week win against Manchester last Wednesday and a 3-1 record at the Servies Duals. A 23-15 loss to Lincoln College, a NJCAA Division II program. Wabash will compete at the Pete Willson - Wheaton Invitational this Friday and Saturday, followed by the Midstates Wrestling Conference Tournament at Manchester College on February 12. Wabash will serve as the host of the 2011 NCAA DIII Midwest Wrestling Regional on Saturday, February 26.
