Former Track Coach Rob Johnson H'77 honored recent standout athletes, students, and shared some keys for Wabash men to succeed during Thursday morning's Chapel Talk.
But Johnson's planned talk, The ACE Factor," had to wait until the second half of his time at the Chapel podium. He spent several minutes talking about African American history and Wabash College, personal experience, and saluting student athletes who have enjoyed recent success.
The ACE Factor is "all of the things you can control' in life whether it be an athlete, student, or just about anyone else.
The "A" stands for attitude, Johnson said. He encouraged students to have the best positive attitude they can possibly muster.
The "C" represents concentration or character, commitment, or confidence. "When you leave here you're going to be so well educated that you're going to be over-confident," he warned. He urged the students to listen and not be quite so self-assured.
The "E" means effort, he finished. It's the one thing everyone controls, Johnson said.
He talked about his zealous recruitment visits and sales pitches and brought the Chapel to a roar with several of his favorite enthusiastic, confident, and loud chants.
