While at Wabash, David played on the basketball and golf teams, received the Mackintosh Fellow in Biology and Mills Prize in the Bible, and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and Phi Beta Kappa. He spent 18 years in academic medicine at the University of North Carolina and Indiana University School of Medicine, attaining the rank of Mary Fendrich Hulman Professor and Chief of Gynecologic Oncology at IU. He started his private practice, Gynecologic Oncology of Indiana, in 2006 and continues to teach medical students, residents, and fellows. David is currently the community representative to the Gynecologic Cancer Steering Committee for the National Cancer Institute, liaison to the American College of Radiology expert panel on radiation oncology—gynecology, Council member and chair of the Clinical Practice Committee for the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, and is on the Editorial Board of
Gynecologic Oncology. He lives in Indianapolis with his wife, Mary Kristine Beckwith, MD, and two sons who attend Heritage Christian School. He is a member of Second Presbyterian Church, relishes Monon Bell games, has given mock oral interviews to Wabash premedical students, and is a member of the Byron K. Trippett Society within the 1832 Society.
