With the Wabash baseball team's doubleheader against Kenyon now cancelled, the Little Giants have earned the number three seed in the upcoming North Coast Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament. Wabash will open play Thursday night against second-seeded Ohio Wesleyan.
Wabash and Wittenberg finished the regular season with identical 9-5 records in NCAC play. However, a sweep of Denison by Wabash on Saturday gave the Little Giants the tiebreaker in the final seeding and a number three seed for the tournament. Wooster, with a 9-4 record for a conference winning percentage of .692, earned the top seed. Ohio Wesleyan finished with an NCAC record of 11-5 (.618) to take the number two seed.
The NCAC Tournament will be played at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio beginning Thursday afternoon. Wittenberg and Wooster will open play at 4 p.m., followed by Wabash and Ohio Wesleyan at 8 p.m. The two Thursday winners will meet at noon on Friday in the double-elimination tourney, with the two losing teams from Thursday set to play at 4 p.m. The loser of Friday's first game and the winner of the second game will meet in the final elimination game Friday evening at 7 p.m.
The championship will be decided on Saturday afternoon. The two remaining teams will play at 1 p.m. If each team remaining has only one loss after the first game on Saturday, a final elimination game will played immediately after the the 1 p.m. contest.
Wabash is playing in the NCAC Tournament for the third consecutive season. Last year the Little Giants finished with losses to Wooster and Denison in Chillicothe. John Holm and John Pennington earned spots on the 2010 All-NCAC Tournament Team. Wabash lost the three-game series to Wooster in 2009.
