The Chapel, which honors the Homecoming spirit of the late Barney Hollett ’36, serves as the NAWM national meeting, at which the board of directors honors alumni with several awards, including the Alumni Awards of Merit.
Richard C. Glover ’65 received the Clarence A. Jackson Career Service Award for his remarkable career as teacher, coach, and mentor at the Woodberry Forest School in Virginia. As the wrestling coach for the past 25 years, Glover's student-athletes won 21 Prep League Championships and nine state championships. Along the way, Glover has been named state Coach of the Year 15 times. Glover serves Woodberry Forest as master of history; associate director of athletics; associate director of admissions; junior varsity tennis coach; freshman football coach; and resident master of Turner Hall. Woodberry Forest recently named its new fitness center in honor of its beloved coach.
David N. Shane ’70 earned the Frank W. Misch Alumni Service Award for his service to Wabash College. The president and CEO of LDI, Ltd., Shane serves as a Wabash College trustee and is active on the advisory board of the Center of Inquiry in the Liberal Arts at Wabash. He helped shape Wabash's strategic plan, "Defining Effective Liberal Arts Education for the 21st Century," and has been active in driving Indiana's Campaign for Leadership.
Dr. Gordon A. Vogel, M.D., ’72 earned the Fredrick J. Urbaska Civic Service Award for his lifetime commitments to his community of Mount Vernon, Indiana. A family physician who practices at two Evansville-area hospitals, Vogel has been an active community and church volunteer, and has served as a scoutmaster for local troops of the Boy Scouts of America. He also has served as a youth sports coach; worked for Habitat for Humanity; and has worked to prevent child abuse.
