Michael J. Reidy (pictured right) and Larry Frye were named Honorary Alumni during Homecoming weekend. |
In presenting the awards, National Association of Wabash Men President Rick Fobes ’72 pointed out the enormous impact both Reidy and Frye have made during their careers at Wabash.
Frye, who has been a model of community service for Wabash students, also has been honored by his professional colleagues for his efforts to incorporate technology into library science. Said Fobes, "You have embraced teaching and learning through technology while surrounded by a quarter of a million old fashioned books."
Frye, an honors graduate of Bethany College who attended Yale Divinity School and earned a master's degreee from Rutgers, came to Wabash in 1980 as head librarian. He has served as an advisor to students; taught classes; led the effort to establish Wabash's human resources office; preached at chapel; and chairs the College's community service task force. He is a long-time advisor to the service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, spearheads the local residential United Fund drive, and is on the local board of Habitat for Humanity.
Reidy came to the Wabash Admissions Office in 1978 after teaching early in his career. He has directed Wabash's most prestigious and ground breaking scholarship programs, and currently is an Associate Director of Admissions.
In naming him an honorary alumnus, Fobes credited Reidy not only with attracting young men to Wabash, but in keeping alive their ties to the College long after graduation.
Larry Frye will be an honorary member of the Wabash Class of 1981, while Mike Reidy has chosen the Class of 2004.
