174th Wabash Commencement May 13

One hundred ninety-three men will receive sheepskin diplomas at Wabash College’s 174th Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 13. The proceedings will be held on the College Mall and will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Wabash President Patrick E. White will preside over the ceremony. He will also “ring out” the Class of 2012 with the very same hand bell used by Caleb Mills to call the first Wabash students to class more than 175 years ago.

In keeping with long-standing tradition, only graduating seniors will give remarks at the Commencement Ceremony. Ridgefield, WA native Donovan Bisbee and Yangnan (Paul) Liu from the People’s Republic of China were selected by Dean Gary Phillips to present addresses.

In addition to the awarding of bachelor’s degrees to graduating seniors, Wabash will be presenting honorary degrees.

Honorary degree recipients will be celebrated at a luncheon with members of the Wabash College Board of Trustees.

Commencement Day activities begin with the Baccalaureate Service at 11 a.m. in the Pioneer Chapel on the Wabash campus. Dr. Matthew Myers Boulton, President of Christian Theological seminary in Indianapolis will give the Baccalaureate Sermon.

Following the Commencement Ceremony, President White and his wife, Chris, will host a reception in honor of the graduates, their families, and the honorary degree recipients.

Other activities on campus during Commencement weekend includes the Senior Art Exhibition on Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12. The exhibit will feature senior art majors, Evan Bayless, Matt Levendowski, Yangnan Liu, Brandon Doebler, Ben Muensterman, and Kelvin Burzon. The exhibit will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day in the Eric Dean Gallery in the Fine Arts Center, located on Grant Avenue.
