The Wamidan ensemble will open the first part of the program with songs featuring African flute, harps, log xylophones, drums, and folk dances from the musical cultures of both Ghana (West Africa) and Uganda (East Africa). Participating in the dances are Montgomery County residents Caity Charles, Lyndsay Gobel, Sarah Handley, Chrissy Stevens, Anna Jean Templeton, Sophia Templeton, and Darby Truax. Wamidan is directed by James Makubuya.
In the second part of the program, the Jazz Band will be performing a series of blues compositions ranging from Duke Ellington’s Azure, Oscar Pettiford’s Blues In The Closet and the 1960s top 40 hit, Swinging Shepherds Blues. The Jazz Band is directed by John Hill.
Both ensembles will take the stage for a finale featuring Dizzy Gillespie's A Night in Tunisia.
