Ward Named National Assistant Coach of the Year

In just his second year as defensive backs and special teams coach at Wabash College, Brian Ward has been named the Division III Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association.

Ward was hired by head coach Chris Creighton during the summer before the 2001 season. He's helped Wabash to an 18-game winning streak and this year's perfect 10-0 regular season and Monon Bell victory.

Wabash had special teams touchdowns three games in a row at one point this season, while Ward's secondary has made 22 interceptions thus far in 2002.

Ward is know for his community service, too. He helped organize and execute Wabash's Turnover Hunger program. The program generated more than 3,000 canned food donations for the local FISH Food Pantry.

In addition, every Wabash football player and coach pledged to donate a dollar for every turnover the team forces during the 2002 season. So far the team has forced 35 turnovers for a total donation of more than $3,500 for FISH.

The 2002 Wabash football team qualified for the NCAA Division III Playoffs for the first time since 1977 and defeated MacMurray 42-7 in the first round.
