2008 Celebrating Scholarships Luncheon
Sophomore Daniel King was the student speaker at the 2008 Celebrating Scholarships Luncheon, which was attended by nearly 400 students, family members, donors, and friends. In his remarks, King told his own life story — about how he wanted to attend college but wasn't sure he could after his father died of a stroke when Daniel was 15. "My story is not unique... If you look across the table, there's a good chance the student sitting there could not be here without your generosity," he said.
German Professor Brian Tucker received the Albert M. Gavit Scholarship when he was an undergraduate. He spoke to the Celebrating Scholarships Luncheon attendees from the perspective as both a scholarship recipient and also as chair of the Gavit Scholarship Committee. "We want to take the time to recognize the good work of our alumni and friends... So much of what we do here is made possible by your generosity," Tucker said.
