The 2008 Wabash College Cross Country Team got its season underway with
the Charlie Finch Memorial Alumni Run.
Geoff Lambert and Martin Kirkwood pace the alumni team at the start of
the race.
A pack of Wabash alumni (and David Brake's son, Andrew) complete the
first mile on the Wabash cross country circuit.
An All-American at 800 meters while an undergraduate, 2008 grad Geoff
Lambert appears to be in top form, and won the Charlie Finch Memorial
with a time of 21:57.
Coach Roger Busch has a young team in 2008 with a number of talented
freshmen, many of whom are packed up here as they complete the first
mile of the race.
A second pack of Little Giants is paced by sophomore Seth Einterz, a
second-team All-NCAC runner a year ago.
Alumnus David Brake (right) runs (for now) with his son, Andrew, who is
a 13 year-old junior high runner. Andrew would later leave his Dad
behind and finish the four-mile circuit averaging less than seven
minutes per mile.
Coach Roger Busch, who usually runs with the alumni in the Charlie Finch
Memorial, instead coached his young team at this year's event. Here he
counts off time as his lead pack comes across the start-finish line.
Donavan White was the top student finisher, crossing in 22:00. The
students were encouraged to run in groups over the first three miles.
White ran with All-American Geoff Lambert until the final 200 meters
when Lambert's famous kick propelled him to victory.
Donavan White leads a student pack through completion of the second mile
of the four-mile race.
Micah Milliman sprints toward the finish line, taking third overall and
second among student runners.
Kevin McCarthy comes across in a virtual tie for fourth place in 22:06.
