Bennett's Hypermnestra: A Triumph (2)
Wabash Music Professor Lawrence Bennett is escorted across the stage of Salter Concert Hall by soprano Elizabeth Pearse following the triumphant performance of Ignaz Holzbauer's "Hypermnestra." Professor Bennett researched the opera, which hadn't been performed in over 250 years, in a German library, then edited it for performance by the Early Music Institute of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
Conductor Stanley Ritchie, harpsichordist Dawn Kalis, and the Indiana University Baroque Classical Orchestra take a well-deserved bow after their performance of "Hypermnestra." A packed house at Salter Concert Hall enjoyed Wabash Music Professor Lawrence Bennett's work in bringing the 260-year-old opera back to life.
