Seattle's Pike Place Market

a tall tower with a pointy top

After awaking from a nap Sunday night, after the long day of travel, I had dinner and came back to Hotel where I tried taking a night picture of the Space Needle from my hotel room. Not great, but without a tripod nearly impossible.

When I was here last summer there were very few clear views of Mt. Ranier. This was shot this morning down along the water front.

No matter how often you visit Seattle, I would think, a trip to the Pike Place Market is an absolute must.

I made a point on the previous trip to 'graze' through the coffee shots but as you can imagine there are more shops than you can hit in one morning. I tried a couple more today. This place was owned by a woman who had worked at several of the other shops, and now has her own. A strong, but well balanced blend -- something you find at most of the shops - no bad coffee.

The market place is full of incredible fruits and vegetables but also nuts, dried fruits, handmade pastas, olive oils, it's a foodies' dream.

Coffee and a scone for breakfast gets the day off nice. This place features lots of art and live jazz on weekends.

How about a pepper bouquet?

There are several fish markets in the Marketplace. The smell of fresh fish permeates the air but not in a bad way - it just fits the environment on the waterfront.

The star of the show is the Pike Place Fish Market. It's the one you've seen on TV where they throw the fish! It is part comedy show, tourist attraction and fish market. The young men are really friends to the tourists, inviting them behind the counter for pictures and handling out samples of smoke salmon. Note the fish being tossed in the upper right of this photo!
