Look closely and you'll see the Chicago skyline. This was our view, through a telephoto lens, from Folly as we sailed from Michigan City to North Point.

At this year's Big Bash Reunion at Wabash, Jack Spurway ’69 heard about John's sailing adventures and volunteered to help him get the boat from Charlevoix, Michigan to North Point. That work included everything from sanding and repairing the hull to adjusting the sails, and during my day on the boat, John thanked Jack more than once for all he'd contributed. Jack heads for The Wooden Boat School in September for more boatbuilding instruction, and will begin work on his own sailboat this fall.

The light changed even more frequently than the seas during my day on the boat, transforming the water from gray to silver to blue within minutes. Here John and Jack shares the cockpit as the morning sun peeks through the clouds.
