Nearly 100 students, faculty, friends, and host family members gathered in Detchon Hall Sunday night as the College's International Students Association celebrated the Lunar New Year—one of the most important traditional holidays in China, Vietnam, Korea, Malaysia, and throughout much of East and Southeast Asia. A promotional video for the event had welcomed guests in seven different languages, and Sunday's celebration brought similar variety in stories, songs, talks, demonstrations, and delicious food.  In his email invitation, ISA Secretary Anh Le invited guests "to participate in this humble celebration of ours and help us recreate the feeling of happiness, cheerfulness and contentment we get while celebrating it back home." The program began with a story—according to legend, the beginning of Chinese New Year started with the fight with the monster Nian (that's Long Pham ’14 behind the mask).    

Ky Tran ’14, in costume as the god of prosperity, welcomed guests with a gift at the door and offered his best wishes for this, the Year of the Rabbit.
