The base level of rock is almost in place at Mud Hollow Field. This limestone drainage base will be underneath the new FieldTurf surface used at the new soccer stadium. Photos by Kenny Farris ’12.

The stone is delivered by dump truck and laid out in a line before the laser-guided bulldozer starts to spread it out evenly.

Flat drains will be installed at key areas around the field to channel the water drained from the top of the field.

The laser-guided machinery helps make certain everything is perfectly level before the new turf roles are installed. Turf could be delivered as early as next week.

Not all of the work involves the field surface. Workers have continued with the stadium seating section work, as well.

Fill dirt is almost in place and will be ready for concrete to be poured soon.

It takes a lot of brick and stone (and a lot of different types) to build a new stadium.

Power and communications lines have been trenched into place from behind the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity next to the new stadium.

The soccer stadium press box also makes a convenient storage area during the construction process.

East of the soccer field, the rest of the Mud Hollow project is nearly ready for sod to be installed. This area will serve as a grass practice field and for intramural and recreation space. The eastern portion will also be used by the track and field program for all of the field events.
