Joseph LaRue '21 presented 'Coercive Administrative Rhetoric: Theories on Application and a Rhetorical Analysis of Donald Trump’s June 1, 2020 Address. He first examine the current understanding of “coercive persuasion” and “administrative rhetoric,” before turning to address a new theory: “coercive administrative rhetoric,” which draws upon the key elements of coercive persuasion and administrative rhetoric in order to provide a method that accounts for both how the rhetorical space for coercive administrative rhetoric is created and maintained, as well as the specific rhetorical tools that institutions can use to maintain their power.
