Students will learn and gain proficiency in the theoretical approaches to understanding the political economy of crises. What are the predictable processes and outcomes associated with private and collective action responses to crises? How do different communities and societies relatively endure and respond to often swift, unexpected, and devastating changes in their political, material and social conditions that citizens live within? Students will survey a wide variety of informative case studies across contexts such as wars, nation building in weak and failed states, natural disasters, and pandemic diseases.
