Title: Democracy and Its Critics
Course Section Number: PHI-319-01
Department: Philosophy
Description: PHI-319-01=PPE-329-01 Winston Churchill famously said that democracy was the worst form of government - except for all the others. In this course, we will examine the love-hate relationship between political thought and democratic power. We will explore various theories of democracy, as well as old and new criticisms of popular rule. Our two guiding questions will be: what is democracy, and is it a good idea?
