Summer Institute

WLAIP Summer Institute Activities | WLAIP

The summer institute begins on Tuesday, July 2nd  with Orientation sessions, meetings that will acquaint you and your parents with what the institute is all about and some financial aspects of college life. Please plan to arrive on campus no later than 10:30 a.m. on the 2nd. We will be in touch with all students about the schedule for that day.

The centerpiece of your month-long experience will be your completion of first first college course, English Composition (Eng 101)  which will be your first class at Wabash. You will meet for that course four days a week (Mon. - Thurs. during most weeks, and Thurs. - Sat. in the first week) 10 a.m. - noon and 1 - 4 p.m. We will assign students into the two different sections of the course for the summer. You will also take Public Speaking (Rhe 101) during the fall semester.

You will also take part in conversations that prepare you for life at Wabash. These conversations will discuss study skills, note-taking strategies, and time management and will also introduce you to new disciplines of study and new paths to success, many of which flow through study in the humanities.

In addition to these modules, our staff is planning a number of social, recreational, and team-building activities for the evenings and/or weekends. You will have such planned activities once or twice each week.

You will also have some down time, time to exercise in the Allen Center, time to hang out with your new friends and student colleagues, and time to just relax in your room.

The institute will end on July 30th, Your parents/guardians are welcome to attend the sessions on that day, though we know that not all parents will be able to make it back to campus. An informational session for parents will begin at approximately 11 a.m. on that day.
